Tom Forster KC and Anita Clifford have appeared before the Administrative Court to challenge the UK government’s decision not to investigate whether some cotton imports come from Uyghur forced labour camps in China’s far western Xinjiang region.
Counsel were instructed by the World Uyghur United Congress (WUC) and the Global Legal Action Network who are taking the legal action against The Home Office, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the National Crime Agency (NCA).
The High Court hearing which took place between 25-26 Oct is thought to be the first time a British court has heard legal arguments from the Uyghurs over the issue of forced labour in Xinjiang.
Mr Justice Dove reserved judgment, to be handed down at a later date.
