Online Justice and Rape: Professor Laura Hoyano interviewed by BBC

Professor Laura Hoyano has been interviewed by the BBC’s AntiSocial programme with Adam Fleming on the topic of online justice and rape.

She discussed the history of anonymity for complainants of serious sexual assault, identifying suspects and the current limited law on anonymity of defendants, and recent developments in the law affording anonymity to suspects before charge.

Laura represented the Criminal Bar Association on the Rape Review, and has given evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee (December 2021) on obstacles to the successful prosecution of rape. She continues to work on developing the CBA’s approach to sexual offence cases as a member of their working group.
