Leo Seelig and Caroline Baker conclude ‘industrial scale’ child abuse case

July 22, 2025

Leo Seelig and Caroline Baker have concluded the prosecution of Patrick Lee Howlett, 58, from Canterbury, who has been jailed for 26 years for facilitating and encouraging the sexual abuse of children in the Philippines.
Between 2015 and 2021, he paid over £55,000—both his own money and funds on behalf of others—to individuals in the Philippines in return for access to indecent images and livestreamed ‘shows’ in which children were sexually abused, including by members of their own families.

Howlett pleaded guilty at the conclusion of the prosecution’s opening speech to the jury. He received a sentence of 26 years’ imprisonment plus 4 years on extended licence. The judge described the sexual abuse he facilitated as being on an industrial scale.

Leo and Caroline were instructed by Julia McSorely of the CPS’ Organised Child Sexual Abuse Unit.
