David Etherington KC (Red Lion Chambers) leading Robert Ward (15 New Bridge Street) acted on behalf of a now 20 year old defendant charged with murder (when he was 18) following the fatal stabbing of a 16 year old boy in a park in Chelmsford.
The case involved cross-examination of young witnesses under the Section 28 procedure and complex legal arguments in relation to the admissibility of things said by a remand prisoner to prison staff in the course of their duties.
After a 4 week trial the defendant was acquitted of murder and possession of a knife. He was convicted of manslaughter and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
