David Etherington KC and Aneurin Brewer secure acquittal in attempted murder case

David Etherington KC and Aneurin Brewer have secured the acquittal of their client on three counts of attempted murder.

The case concerned a mentally ill defendant having an acute mental health crisis which saw him drive into three 14 year olds in East London.

The children who had been on their way to school were taken to hospital and later discharged with non- life- threatening injuries.

The trial heard contested evidence from 3 psychiatrists on the defence of insanity and issue of intention.

The defendant was unanimously acquitted on all three counts of attempted murder and found guilty of dangerous driving and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
