Fraudulent Communications

Important Notice: Fraudulent Communications

Red Lion Chambers has been made aware of fraudulent communications in which individuals have falsely claimed to represent Chambers or its members.

These communications may include unsolicited emails or messages referring to inheritance claims, deceased estates, substantial sums of money or other financial matters. They may also use the names and professional details of barristers associated with Chambers in an attempt to give the correspondence an appearance of legitimacy.

Red Lion Chambers and its members have no connection with these communications.

We urge anyone receiving unexpected correspondence purporting to originate from Red Lion Chambers or one of its members to exercise caution.

In particular, we advise that you:

  • do not respond to suspicious communications or provide personal, financial or banking information
  • do not transfer money or make payments in response to unsolicited claims
  • do not click on links or open attachments where you are unsure that the communication is genuine
  • do not rely solely on the sender’s name, email address or contact details supplied within the correspondence as proof of authenticity

Please be aware that the names and professional details of barristers can be misused by third parties without their knowledge or consent.

If you receive a communication that you believe may be fraudulent, please contact our clerks directly using the contact details published on the Red Lion Chambers website before taking any further action.

Suspicious emails can also be forwarded to the National Cyber Security Centre at report@phishing.gov.uk

Further Government guidance on recognising and reporting scam communications is available here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/recognising-and-reporting-scam-e-mails

Red Lion Chambers takes the misuse of its name and the identities of its members seriously and remains committed to protecting members of the public from fraudulent activity.
