Zoë Chapman writes Opinion piece for The Bar Council

RLC member Zoe Chapman and Bar Council Social Mobility Advocate (2019) has written a guest blog reflecting on current working conditions that are seeing many of the junior bar leaving the profession.

Writing for the Bar Council, she looks at the reasons many are leaving the Criminal Justice System commenting that ‘funding and proper resourcing’ are key to survival. Speaking about her own journey to the Bar she commented:

“I was warned against pursuing a career at the (Criminal) Bar: the hours were long, the pay was bad, and yet gaining tenancy was extremely competitive. I was told these things, but my desire to do what I considered (and still consider) a worthwhile, interesting vocation subsumed those negatives.”
