Sailesh Mehta reflects on COP26 writing in Law Gazette

November 10, 2021

Sailesh Mehta has written an opinion piece for Law Gazette entitled: “COP26: Hyperbole or Hype”. In the piece he looks at whether the law can protect the planet analysing international and national law and marks the rise of environmental bodies in a number of countries bringing prosecutions against large corporations. Reflecting on COP26 he says:

“The real fear, based on historical evidence, is that the rhetoric will not match the reality of what is needed. We have been placed at one minute to midnight on the Doomsday Clock and it may continue ticking past the point of no return. If we do not rise to the challenge of this existential threat, the earth may have plans which do not include the human race.”
