Sailesh Mehta was invited by Sky News to provide legal expert commentary on the dismissal of terrorism charges against Kneecap’s Mo Chara. He explained the following:

-The case was brought under the Terrorism Act 2000, focusing on the alleged display of a Hezbollah flag during a 2024 concert.

-The required consents from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Attorney General (AG) had not been granted at the time the charge was issued.

-This oversight violated the six-month statutory time limit under Section 127 of the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1980.

-Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring ruled the prosecution “unlawful and null” due to the procedural error.
