Chambers is proud to mark World Kindness Day by reaffirming its commitment to fostering compassion, empathy and respect within the legal profession—particularly at the Bar, where advocacy is often conducted under intense scrutiny and demanding conditions.
Valerie Charbit, Chair of RLC’s Wellbeing Committee said:
“Today on World Kindness Day I want to celebrate all those people who show kindness in the legal profession in their working day. Kindness is the superpower for those who choose to work embracing kindness as they do so. Kindness fosters trust and resilience and creates a ripple effect. The research showed that in the legal profession we show kindness with empathy and by understanding another perspective.”
Red Lion Chambers continues to champion kindness as a foundational principle, embedding it within the ethos of Chambers and across its wellbeing initiatives and professional conduct at the Bar.
In September, Valerie Charbit, Nicola Shannon KC and Professor Robin Banerjee formally presented the findings of the Kindness Report in a session hosted by RLC. This publication marked the second in a series of research initiatives examining the role of kindness within the legal profession, with a particular focus on members of the judiciary and higher court advocates. The launch event brought together invited guests who shared their experiences and initiatives aimed at fostering kindness in legal practice and engaged in discussions on how to further cultivate a supportive and compassionate working culture across the profession.
The significance of this research was further underscored in October at the South Eastern Circuit dinner when the Lady Chief Justice spoke about Kindness and the research from the report. The research was enabled by the leadership Judge, HHJ Katherine Tucker. Its importance was reflected in the Foreword which was signed by the leaders of all the Circuits, the Chair and former Chair of The Criminal Bar Association, Riel Karmy-Jones KC and Mary Prior KC. This research was co-sponsored by Chambers and the South Eastern Circuit.
