RLC hosts inaugural Kindness Ambassadors meeting
RLC is pleased to be hosting with the South Eastern Circuit the first Kindness Ambassadors meeting on National Random Acts of Kindness Day — 17 February 2026.
This new initiative brings together colleagues across the legal profession to explore practical and realistic ways to embed kindness into legal workplaces and support a culture of respect, civility and professionalism.
The recent Kindness at the Bar progress report authored by Valerie Charbit , Nicola Shannon KC and Professor Robin Banerjee reflects a growing recognition that civility and compassion are not optional extras but essential to a healthy, high‑performing profession. The latest article in this month’s Counsel Magazine highlights how more Chambers, judges and practitioners are embracing humane working practices, supporting colleagues and challenging outdated behaviours. While progress is uneven, the direction of travel is clear: kindness is becoming embedded as a professional norm, improving wellbeing, retention and the overall culture of the Bar. Read piece here
Valerie Charbit, Chair of the RLC Wellbeing Committee said: “During our first session, we will collaborate on what kindness means within a legal context, identify the pressure points that arise in our day‑to‑day work and brainstorm small, practical actions that can make a meaningful difference. I am also pleased to share that Sussex University will be supporting this initiative and we are exploring interest in an online course for those who wish to deepen their learning.”
If you would like to attend the meeting on 17 February 2026 at 6pm, online, please email vc@18rlc.co.uk to receive the joining details with the subject – Kindness Ambassador.
