Red Lion Barrister and Co-Chair of the International Practice Group, David Young has been recognised for his work as Lead Defence Counsel defending Assad Sabra before The Special Tribunal for Lebanon in the Hague.
The FT recognised him by awarding RLC with a Commended ranking in the “Dispute Resolution’ category. David Young has been leading a Defence team of highly respected international criminal lawyers in this international court since 2012, and is the only UK appointed lead Defence Counsel in the proceedings.
The STL proceedings set several precedents, firstly, by being the first international terrorism case of its kind, secondly, being the first in absentia trial in modern international criminal proceedings since Nuremberg and thirdly, given that the STL is the only International court to have a fully independent Defence Office which is a principal organ of the court.
David has been representing the interests of an Accused alleged to have involvement in the assassination of the Former Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Rafic Hariri, who was killed in a large explosion in Beirut in 2005.
