Riel Karmy-Jones KC gives evidence to the Justice Select Commitee

RLC member Riel Karmy-Jones KC, Chair of the The Criminal Bar Association gave evidence to the Justice Select Committee on the Government’s recent proposals to the criminal justice system being advanced by David Lammy, one of the most far‑reaching and consequential transformations of the criminal trial system has seen in decades.

The session entitled “Reform of the Criminal Courts” took place on Tuesday 13th January. It examined the government proposals to significantly curtail the role of juries, and broaden the use of judge‑only trials alongside Sir Brian Leveson’s alternative proposal of judge plus two magistrate trials.

Riel appeared alongside along side Kirsty Brimelow KC (Chair of The Bar Council of England and Wales), Cassia Rowland ( Senior Researcher, Institute for Government) and David Ford JP (National Chair, The Magistrates​’ Association).
