Mark Bennett

Mark Bennett is Practice Director and Senior Clerk with overall responsibility for the strategic and daily management of the clerks’ room, management of members’ practices and professional client service.

Joining Chambers in August 1984 as a junior clerk, he has spent more than 40 years at the set and brings extensive knowledge of its members, clients and the wider profession. He was appointed First Junior in 1993 before becoming Practice Director in 2012.

Over the course of his career, Mark has played an influential role in the evolution and growth of Chambers, helping to guide its expansion from 26 members to more than 110 full-time members today. He has worked under six Heads of Chambers and helped steer Chambers through significant change across the profession.

Working closely with the Heads of Chambers, members, staff, committees and professional clients, Mark has oversight of members’ practices, diary management and work allocation. He also plays a key role in supporting business development and marketing activity, strengthening client relationships, identifying new opportunities and contributing to Chambers’ wider strategic objectives. He is also the first point of enquiry for silk-related work.

Alongside his practice management responsibilities, Mark has oversight of wider operational, financial, staffing and governance matters, working closely with the senior management team and relevant committees.
