Leo Seelig prosecutes in case involving 350 Kilos of Class A drugs

February 27, 2024

Leo Seelig has successfully prosecuted Jermaine Alexander who was concerned in the supply of over 350 kilos of cocaine between February and November 2022 and transferring approximately £8m over the same period.

In July 2022 he was observed passing £300,000 in cash to a man named Callum Rugg. When Mr Alexander was later arrested he was in possession of two phones, one of which contained a note recording sales of multi-kilo quantities of cocaine totalling over 350 kilos. The jury heard that the defendant also had a recording on his phone of a telephone call between a man in prison and his mother shortly after the man was arrested in possession of 20 kilos of cocaine in November 2022. The man was telling his mother to tell ‘Jermaine’ to get him the best solicitor in the country.

Mr. Alexander was charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine and with money laundering offences.

The defendant asserted he was a modern slave. His defence was that he was forced to become involved in the offending by a person who held him responsible for the loss of £53,000 and threatened the defendant’s family with death if he did not work for him.

He was found guilty on all charges at the Old Bailey. Sentencing will take place on 15 March 2024.

The case was investigated by the MET Proactive Money Laundering Team. Leo Seelig was instructed by the CPS.
