RLC member Lauren Sales will preside as a Judge in the upcoming Young Citizens Bar Mock Trial on Thursday 10 March. She will participate in the Oxford regional heat which will take place online.
The Bar Mock Trial is open to 15–18-year-olds from non-independent schools in the British Isles and is hosted by Young Citizens-a charity that provides school engagement opportunities with access to the Criminal Justice System and the Bar. One of the longest-running active learning experiences in the charity’s history, the competitions have been running since 1991 and encourage students from a diverse range of backgrounds to engage and build their confidence as well as their understanding of the law.
All participating schools are given specific written criminal cases to prepare legal arguments. After preparation, the teams take part in the regional heat and go head-to-head with other schools to prosecute and defend the cases. Winning teams will then compete in a National Final.
Lauren Sales said:
” I competed in the Young Citizens Bar Mock Trial competition with my school 17 years ago and am delighted to be returning to judge a regional heat. The competition provides an important platform for school children to engage in public speaking, critical analysis, teamwork and to practice trial advocacy in front of senior legal professionals and members of the judiciary.”
