Justine Ryan begins Pupillage with insightful reflections on CBA’s Young Bar Day

Congratulations to Justine Ryan, who has joined Red Lion Chambers as a first six pupil barrister under the supervision of Leo Seelig.

Already immersing herself in life at the Criminal Bar, Justine recently attended the inaugural Young Bar Day hosted by the Criminal Bar Association (CBA) at Inner Temple. In her insightful blog account, she shares key takeaways from the day’s speakers and sessions, offering practical advice and reflections for fellow barristers at the start of their careers. Justine writes about both the support and inspiration available to the next generation of the Bar at a moment of wider change. She writes:

“That sense of vocation carried into the keynote address from the Rt Hon Lady Justice Philippa Whipple, who reflected on life at the Bar as a way of life rather than a job. She urged the Young Bar to build networks of support, to turn adversity into learning, and to look after themselves as carefully as they serve others. Her words set the tone for the panels that followed, each one exploring what it means to sustain a healthy and resilient career.”
