Joshua Ellis secures unanimous acquittal in racial harassment case

Joshua Ellis has secured an unanimous acquittal for a defendant tried for racially aggravated harassment of a Police Officer.

The prosecution case included body worn footage of the incident, as well as evidence from two Police Officers. The issues for the jury were whether the Officer was caused distress, whether it was the defendant’s intention to cause distress, and if the defendant had been motivated by racial hostility towards the Officer. The jury were asked to consider both the racially aggravated version of the offence as well as the basic offence.

Following a three day trial at Isleworth Crown Court and having heard closing speeches and the Judge’s summing up, the jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty to both the racially aggravated and basic offence.

Joshua was instructed by Jack Ward of Tank Jowett Solicitors.
