“We’re starting to lose sight of what we are trying to do in our courts… we are looking for justice”
RLC member Joanna Hardy-Susskind appeared on BBC News Politics Live to discuss reform of the criminal justice system in England and Wales.
Her comments followed the announcement that Justice Secretary David Lammy was proposing radical changes including the introduction of new “Swift Courts.” Under this plan, judges alone would make decisions in cases expected to carry sentences of three years or less.
If implemented, these reforms would mark the biggest change to jury trials in England and Wales in generations.
