In June 2018, Rehan Khan forced his way into the home of his ex partner where she was living with her four children at the time. Having held the family hostage for more than 3 hours, Khan stabbed his former partner and their 11 month old son in front of her 3 older children multiple times. Sentencing Khan to life with a minimum term of 16 years, HHJ Enright said “you stabbed the child out of anger for purely selfish reasons and you stabbed the mother as she would not comply”. The judge also concluded that Khan had attempted to feign or exaggerate symptoms of psychosis and depression following a late guilty plea to the offences in a bid to reduce his sentence.
