This is an excellent set that has worked hard to secure a well-deserved position amongst the leading sets at the Criminal Bar.

    Chambers UK Bar, 2022

    Personal profile

Daniel is a second six pupil at Red Lion Chambers. His current supervisor is Aneurin Brewer, having previously been supervised by Emma Gargitter. He is developing a broad criminal practice and appears regularly in the Magistrates’ and Youth Courts. He looks forward to building experience across Chambers’ core areas, including serious crime, fraud, and regulatory work.

Daniel comes to the Bar as a Naval Officer and is completing pupillage as part of his training to become a Naval Barrister. He will return to practice within the Royal Navy after completing his second six.

Before selection for legal training within the Navy Legal Service, Daniel served in a range of  roles in the Royal Navy. His early service included time in the Band Service as a musician before switching to Royal Marines Officer training, completing commando and infantry leadership courses up to Troop Commander level. Following an injury, he transferred to the Royal Navy and completed logistics officer training.

Daniel has held several seagoing and shore appointments, including Logistics Officer (Support) at HM Naval Base Clyde and Logistics Officer aboard the nuclear-powered submarines HMS Ambush and HMS Astute. These roles involved leading departments in isolated and high-pressure operational environments, preparing vessels for inspection and deployment, and sustaining submarine operations during extended patrols and global deployments. While deployed, Daniel advised Commanding Officers on disciplinary and administrative matters, including service law issues arising at sea, and acted as the principal liaison with Navy Legal Services. In 2023, he was selected for legal training as a naval barrister and commenced formal legal education ahead of pupillage.

Daniel has a particular interest in public international law, cyber law, and the legal dimensions of emerging technologies. Alongside his military and legal training, he has completed an MSc in Computer Science with Cyber Security and has ongoing research interests at the intersection of technology, conflict, and international legal frameworks

He is also experienced in developing practical AI tools for legal analysis and case preparation. These projects inform his interest in improving the efficiency of legal workflows and supporting lawyers in managing complex evidence bases.
