Environment

Our environment barristers defend and prosecute high-profile, complex and cutting-edge environmental law cases.

With some of the most highly-respected regulatory crime experts within our environment team, members of Red Lion Chambers are instructed by SMEs, FTSE-100 companies, local government, company directors, landowners and regulators on all aspects of environmental law.Frequently, our members are asked to advise the Environment Agency on prospective prosecutions against companies and individuals, as well as on key areas of policy and statutory interpretation. This relates to all aspects of environmental law, including the Environment Act 1995 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, as well as the law relating to international pollution and the trade in hazardous waste. We have prosecuted large, well-known international companies for offences contrary to environmental and Health & Safety legislation.

It is knowledge and perspective of both prosecution and defence in environmental law cases that sets our environment barristers apart. Barristers are asked to supply early advice and assistance to organisations under investigation. This includes providing practical, timely and robust advice in relation to judicial review of search warrants and use of powers of entry to premises, invitations for interview and response to notices. Members of Red Lion Chambers’ Environment team are invited regularly to provide specialist training and to lecture at conferences both in the UK and overseas.
