136 million POCA Hearing at Leeds Crown Court

December 20, 2013

Sailesh Mehta has just completed a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing at Leeds Crown Court.  The Prosecution initially alleged that the defendant had benefitted from his criminal conduct (the largest ever importation of cannabis case) in the sum of £136 million.

After 2 days of legal submissions, it was conceded that the benefit figure was £47 million.  In a Judgment on the 4th day of hearing, the Court accepted that the realisable assets, based on a “real” benefit, were £4.7 million.
