Unanimous convictions in sham marriage case

Following a four-week trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, Matthew Sorel-Cameron, leading Dan Taylor, secured unanimous convictions against four defendants, for multiple offences of conspiracy to facilitate the breach of immigration law and fraud.

The case concerned the arrangement of two ‘sham marriages’ between 2009 and 2012, and subsequent fraudulent use of bank and credit cards, by one of the defendants. The case involved an extensive police operation spanning a number of years, in respect of which a significant quantity of material was generated. Sentence was adjourned to 30 June 2023.
