Syam Soni secures acquittal in Vietnamese migrant case
Syam Soni appeared for the defence in proceedings concerning the alleged smuggling of Vietnamese migrants into the UK.
The wider case concerned allegations of organised immigration crime and the unlawful movement of Vietnamese nationals into Britain.
Syam represented a defendant who was tried separately over two weeks on a count of conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration and was acquitted.
The trial involved contested bad character and hearsay arguments arising from a previous similar conviction in France, as well as legal submissions concerning the admissibility of a co-defendant’s acquittal. Syam also cross-examined a telecommunications expert as part of the defence case.
The prosecution was brought by the CPS following an investigation by the National Crime Agency. Syam was instructed by Tariq Al-Mimi of Maurice Andrew Solicitors, Birmingham.
Syam Soni is a dedicated criminal defence specialist with a national practice and is regularly instructed to represent those accused of the most serious criminal offences
