Simon Spence QC secures acquittal for former Magistrate charged with racial assault

Simon Spence QC has secured the acquittal of former magistrate Nigel Stringer who was found not guilty of the racist assault of a former tenant.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Mr Munatswa had rented a property from Nigel Stringer in Norwich between 2014 and 2016.

The former magistrate had been accused of beating Mr Munatswa after he turned up at the Stringers’ home near Long Stratton, Norfolk in January 2018. He was charged alongside his son.

There had been two previous attempts at the trial in 2019, both of which ended with the premature discharge of the jury.

Nigel Stringer was found not guilty of racially aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm; assault occasioning actual bodily harm; racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress; and battery.
