Simon Spence KC discusses Whole Life Orders on LBC News

Simon Spence KC was asked to provide legal analysis for the Nick Ferrari show on LBC this morning (12th March, 2025) in response to UK crossbow killer Kyle Clifford being sentenced.

Clifford was convicted of three counts of murder, one of false imprisonment and two counts of possession of offensive weapons. He was also found guilty of raping Louise Hunt, his ex-partner.

Simon spoke about:

– Whole Life Orders (WLO) reserved for crimes of exceptional gravity ensures an offender remains in prison for life without the possibility of parole and are the harshest sentence under UK law.

-Section 21 of the Sentencing Act 2020, where a WLO is mandatory in cases where an offender is convicted of two or more murders and the murders involved sexual or sadistic conduct.
