Simon Spence KC features as a legal commentator in “Murder Trial: The Suffolk Strangler” based on the serial killer Steve Wright airing on Channel 5 at 9pm on Thursday 19 February.
The drama documentary is particularly timely following the significant developments earlier this month when serial killer Steve Wright admitted further historic offences at the Old Bailey more than 26 years after they were committed.
The programme revisits Wright’s crimes, the scale of the original investigation and the impact his offending had on the Ipswich community and beyond. It explores both the 2006 murders for which Wright is already serving a whole‑life sentence and the wider context of his offending, drawing on legal, investigative and forensic perspectives to examine how the case unfolded and why it remains so significant today.
Simon’s involvement reflects his long‑standing connection to the case. He served as junior counsel in the original so-called ‘Suffolk Strangler’ prosecution in 2008, one of the most complex and high‑profile serial murder investigations in recent UK history.
