Sailesh Mehta joined the Bar Council delegation to Colombo for the inaugural International Legal Symposium, marking the first joint conference between the Bar of England and Wales and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).Led by Chair of the Bar Council Kirsty Brimelow KC, the delegation brought together judges, advocates and legal professionals to exchange expertise on a range of international legal issues, including the rule of law, judicial independence, professional ethics, artificial intelligence and alternative dispute resolution. As part of the programme, Sailesh contributed to discussions on the ethical and judicial implications of AI and alongside Colin Aylott KC, delivered practical advocacy training to junior lawyers. He commented:“The symposium also showed why international engagement works best when it is reciprocal. We may bring experience from England and Wales, but we return with a better understanding of another jurisdiction and fresh perspectives on our own practice.”Read Sailesh’s Blog for the Bar Council here:
