Sailesh Mehta spoke to The Times Radio and has been interviewed by Al Arabiya News on the action being taken by the CBA and Criminal Barristers, the precarious state of the Criminal Justice System, legal aid cuts, the rate of attrition in a profession in crisis and court delays:
On the future of cases he commented:
“some victims of sex cases (and defendants) were already having to wait 4-5 years to see the end of the case…. this was happening before our action began …. as the maxim goes, justice delayed is justice denied.”
He concluded:
“at the end of this process, our system of Justice will be a diminished institution, even if we found an increased offer to be acceptable, there won’t be enough barristers to continue the criminal justice system.”
