Sailesh Mehta was invited to TV Breakfast show “Good Morning Britain” to provide legal commentary on how the criminal justice system is poised to respond to the UK riots.
He was interviewed by Kate Garraway and Ed Balls and asked about the spread of misinformation on social media where he commented: “To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, disinformation will travel twice around the globe before the truth puts on its shoes.”
Sailesh also talked about the potential of 24 hour courts, complexities of handling riots, the legal ramifications for those involved, the current legal landscape and the measures being taken to restore order.
“The criminal justice system is creaking at the seams, but it will find a way to accommodate the effects of the unrest.”
