RLC “Endless Sentences” Webinar to include performances from acclaimed actors

April 27, 2021

Chambers are pleased to announce actors Sudha Bhuchar, Zainab Hassan and Ashna Rabheru will be performing in RLC’s “Endless Sentences” webinar in association with Clean Break Theatre on Thursday 29th April which starts at 6pm.

A special preview of two scenes from Clean Break’s forthcoming play The Favour (co-produced with the Bush Theatre) will be performed. The play has been written by actress and playwright Ambreen Razia (Hounslow Diaries, Ilford Lane) and directed by Róisín McBrinn, Joint Artistic Director of Clean Break.

The play focuses on Aleena and her struggles to find her identity and position on the other side of prison. It explores the pressure the South Asian community places on her and the impact imprisonment of women has on their children and families.

Clean Break has an unparalleled reputation for award-winning theatre that keeps the complex subject of women in prison on the cultural radar, helping to reveal the damage caused by the failures of the criminal justice system. Through their unique work, they raise difficult questions, inspire debate, and help to effect profound and positive change in the lives of women with experience of the criminal justice system or who are at risk of entering it.

Co- Head of Chambers and Development Board Member at Clean Break, Gillian Jones QC said,

“It is a real privilege to have a live performance with these brilliant actors bringing to life scenes from Ambreen Razia’s forthcoming play ‘The Favour’. Through theatre and story-telling this will bring a unique perspective on the impact of prison on women. We want to have a broad discussion highlighting the journeys of women who find themselves in the Criminal Justice System and the effects this has on their lives and those around them. Only through open discussion are these stories heard and change achieved.”
