Kate Bex QC was instructed for the prosecution and Edmund Vickers QC for the defence.
A woman was raped in an East London park close to her home on the 13th January.
Kate Bex told the court that Derry McCann “began a sustained and systematic attack, accompanied by unusual conversation with the victim, best described as mind games in an attempt to control her, asking the victim what she thought he was going to do to her before actually carrying out the acts”
McCann had been convicted of a similar crime over a decade ago. This was the basis of the bad character evidence. In addition to the bad character evidence, the prosecution case included the victim’s tesitimony, an ID parade and CCTV footage. McCann pleaded guilty to three counts of rape.
McCann will be sentenced on the 28th April 2017.
