Jonathan Fisher KC’s work on fraud reform has been highlighted in City AM, following the Government’s announcement that some technical and lengthy fraud and financial crime cases could be heard without a jury.
City AM reports on concerns surrounding the proposals and highlights Jonathan’s Independent Review of Fraud Offences, which recommended retaining jury trials in complex fraud cases and emphasised that questions of dishonesty should remain rooted in the judgment of ordinary citizens.
Jonathan also examines the wider challenge of tackling digitally enabled fraud in a new article for Counsel Magazine, “Tackling digital fraud -an international perspective.”
Drawing on his Independent Review, he considers:
-The growth of international organised digital fraud
-The need for greater cross-border cooperation
-The role of technology, social media and prevention
-How the UK can use its 2027 G20 presidency to drive international action
Jonathan argues that domestic prosecutions alone will not solve the problem and calls for a more coordinated international response, including stronger cooperation on evidence gathering, asset recovery and extradition.
