Our prevailing recruitment strategy at Red Lion Chambers is one of organic growth, although we are happy to consider unsolicited applications for tenancy from talented barristers whose skills and experience may support the prevailing business needs of Chambers and its commercial strategy. All applicants will need to demonstrate a strong track record of building a successful practice in at least one of our core specialist areas.
Our recruitment process is in three stages, and at each we are mindful of the need for utmost confidentiality.
Stage 1
Applicants should send a completed application form to our Tenancy Committee, who with our two most senior staff will consider the applicant’s skills and experience, our current business need, and how the applicant might support our strategic plans. If it is felt the applicant could make a positive contribution to the Red Lion Chambers community an interview will be offered.
Our application form can be downloaded by clicking here. CVs and covering letters will not be accepted.
Stage 2
Applicants who are successful at stage 1 will be invited for a panel interview so further information can be gathered, and during which they will be assessed against criteria as set out in our application form.
Stage 3
Following a successful interview, the applicant’s referees will be consulted, along with some members of Chambers, and any recommendation from the Tenancy Committee will considered by the Heads of Chambers who will decide whether or not to make an offer of tenancy.
At RLC, we encourage applications for tenancy from talented barristers with a track record of building a successful practice in at least one of our core specialist areas.
What is the process for joining RLC as an associate (door tenant)?
To apply for an associate (door) tenancy at RLC, you should write in confidence to the Heads of Chambers Gillian Jones KC and Tom Forster KC (tenancy@18rlc.co.uk) providing a CV and a covering letter setting out a career history and description of your practice, why you want to practise from Red Lion Chambers, and what you feel you can add to the Red Lion Chambers community. You are also invited to complete our Equality and Diversity Monitoring Form which is held separately and forms no part of the selection process, but helps us ensure we are recruitment from the best possible pool of talent. The Heads of Chambers may seek more information from applicants as they think necessary to help them determine the application. All applications will be treated confidentially.
Please note that associate tenants cannot become full members under our Chambers’ constitution.
What are Red Lion Chambers’ values and ethos?
