Jeremy Benson KC and Steven Dyble conclude defence in murder case

Following a four week trial at Ipswich Crown Court, Jeremy Benson KC leading Steven Dyble represented 43 year old Jay Cotterill who was charged with the murder of 37 year old Richard Hunt of Suffolk.

During the trial the court heard Mr Cotterill and Mr Hunt were known to each other, having both had relationships with the same woman.

The jury acquitted Mr Cotterill of murder whilst returning a guilty verdict on the alternative count of manslaughter. Mr Cotterill was also cleared of a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm against Mr Hunt’s ex-partner, who was also present that night.

Mr Cotterill will be sentenced on 9 August.
