Jenni Dempster KC raises defence of Non-Insane Automatism in Murder Case

Jenni Dempster KC appeared on behalf of an 84-year-old defendant, who was charged with the murder of his 78-year old wife.

Extensive legal argument took place in relation to the availability of the defence of non-insane automatism.

Following the ruling, the defendant pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility and was sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years on Friday 11 October 2024.
