James Holland secures acquittal for Mother charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child

James Holland has secured the acquittal of a mother who was charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. She was found not guilty by unanimous verdict of the jury.

Rinkalben Prajapati had been accused of murdering her newborn baby daughter and allowing the death of a child, alongside her husband. Hazel Prajapati was admitted to Northwick Park Hospital on 16 September 2022 as she was suffering from a cardiac arrest and was unable to breathe on her own. She had been left with brain injuries, a skull fracture, multiple additional fractures and ‘possible bite marks’ on her body. Hazel died aged only 11 weeks and four days at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Husband and co-defendant Krunal Prajapati was found guilty of manslaughter.

The trial was heard at Snaresbrook Crown Court and took place over 6 weeks.
