Hugh French appointed Deputy District Judge

Chambers is delighted to congratulate Hugh French on his appointment by the Lady Chief Justice as a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ Court), with effect from 26 October 2026.

Hugh is a highly experienced criminal barrister who prosecutes and defends in serious and complex cases, including homicide, serious violence, sexual offences, organised crime and fraud. He is a Grade 4 CPS Panel Advocate and is also appointed to the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences, Serious Crime and Counter Terrorism specialist panels.

His latest judicial appointment follows his appointment earlier this year as a Recorder in Crime on the Midlands Circuit, which took effect on 11 May 2026.

Hugh will continue his practice at Red Lion Chambers alongside his judicial responsibilities.
