Former Head of Chambers Tony Shaw KC retires from the Bar

After nearly five decades of distinguished legal practice, Tony Shaw KC renowned for his expertise in fraud cases, has officially retired from the Bar.

Beginning his illustrious career at 4 Brick Court before joining Red Lion Chambers, where he served as co-head from 2018 to 2023, Tony has left an indelible mark on the legal profession. Known for his integrity and unwavering dedication to his clients, Tony handled some of the most significant cases in his field, ranging from Guinness to Polly Peck, BCCI and LIBOR as well as being a Practitioner Editor of Archbold for 35 years. Described as an “intellectual powerhouse” with a humble demeanour, Tony was highly respected by colleagues and clients alike.

As co-head of Chambers, he played a pivotal role in its growth and success, overseeing refurbishments and navigating challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and bar strikes.

Beyond his legal work, Tony was a tireless advocate for barristers’ rights, serving on the Bar Council and as Chairman of the Fees and Legal Aid Committee. His contributions earned him a well-deserved appointment as a Bencher at Middle Temple.

Despite retiring from active practice, Tony plans to continue sharing his expertise through writing on criminal law and researching the history of 18 Red Lion Court which dates back to 1672.
