David Young invited to speak at The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights

As part of its International Defence Counsel training programme, The Siracusa International Institute for Criminal Justice and Human Rights will be holding the course “Fundamentals on Defence Rights before International Courts”.  The course will take place between the 15th and 19th May 2017. 

The course will address the following:

  • exercising defence and fair trial rights in the context of international court procedures;
  • substantive and procedural aspects of human rights and their importance for the protection of defence and fair trial rights;
  • developing effective defence strategies;
  • enhancing counsels’ management of defence pleadings and motions in international legal assistance proceedings.

 

David has been invited to speak on the 16th and 17th May 2017.  David has defended in a series of high profile international terrorism trials, involving Afghanistan, Pakistan, Algeria and Sri Lanka.  In 2011 he was appointed Lead Defence Counsel before The Special Tribunal for Lebanon [STL] in The Hague for an Accused indicted for the assassination of the Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.  David worked in The Hague for six years, leading a team of lawyers in one of the world’s largest international cases.
