Chambers are delighted to be taking part in the 2020 London Legal Walk x10 Challenge. Having conquered 10,000 Steps for Justice in June, members will be completing 10K for justice remotely on the 5th October.
The Red Lion ‘Walkers’ include: Co-Head of Chambers Antony Shaw QC, Jeremy Benson QC, Allison Clare QC, Tom Forster QC, Shane Collery QC, Marcus Rickard, Sam Smart, Mark Bennett and Rachel Shepherd.
Chambers join the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers remotely to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust which funds Law Centres and pro bono agencies in and around London.
Two-thirds of the UK population do not know where to seek legal advice and 14 million people who live in poverty are unable to pay for it. The London Legal Walk raises vital funds to ensure access to justice for some of our communities’ most poor and vulnerable people and support is needed now more than ever with the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Reduced funding in the charity sector means advice agencies are doing all they can to meet rising need despite a drastically restricted income. Emergency applications for funding are pouring in, with advice charities reporting up to a 600% increase in requests for help.
London Legal Walk supports around 100 legal advice agencies in London and the South East who are working tirelessly to prevent homelessness, resolve debt problems, gain care for the elderly as well as fight discrimination and exploitation.
Chambers will also be supporting the Free Representation Unit and Advocate with the funds raised.
