As we mark International Women’s Day 2025, pupil barrister Basanti Mardemootoo reflects on the story of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian national who was detained in Iran in 2016 and was released from prison in March 2022.
At a recent Fine Cell Work event, a charity committed to the rehabilitation of prisoners through providing purposeful activity, Nazanin spoke to Channel 4’s Cathy Newman about how creative outlets such as cooking, sewing and making jewellery became her lifeline during nearly six years of imprisonment.
