Gillian Jones QC and Max Baines successfully prosecuted David Noakes and four others in connection with the large-scale production and sale of an unlicensed medicine containing human blood.

Noakes, formerly a UKIP politician with no medical background, set up a secret laboratory in Cambridgeshire in order to make a product called GcMAF. With the assistance of two scientists and his ex-wife he manufactured hundreds of thousands of bottles of the medicine, which was sold to doctors and patients around the world as a wonder cure for a vast range of serious and terminal illnesses including: cancer, HIV, MS and autism. Noakes received a 15-month custodial sentence at Southwark Crown Court for his role in the operation.
