Red Lion Chambers is a leading set of chambers operating from premises in London and Chelmsford, headed by Tony Shaw QC & Gillian Jones QC, specialising in business and complex crime, regulatory, professional discipline, inquiries and public law.
In the seven decades of our existence, we have produced a Lord Chancellor, two law officers, a Lord Justice of Appeal, three High Court judges (including the first black woman judge), one Common Serjeant, two Recorders of London, a Chief Coroner, a Director of Public Prosecutions, a Director of the SFO, 5 Chairs of the CBA and a large number of Circuit Judges and other judicial appointments. We now house over 100 barristers, including 25 Queen’s Counsel and 16 Crown Court Recorders
Our members are routinely instructed in the most difficult and factually complex cases, many of which attract substantial media attention. We take pride in our reputation for being first-class advocates with a strong professional track-record. We have a wider strategic skillset and depth of experience because we both defend and prosecute.
Our expertise in crime is well established. Many current members write, contribute to or edit leading practitioner works such as Archbold Criminal Pleadings and Practice, Blackstone OUP’s Fraud, Criminal Law and Procedure, Blackstone’s Criminal Practice and over two dozen other works. We are the only set of Chambers with a member who sits on the Sentencing Council. We have been awarded the Chambers UK Bar Crime Set of the Year accolade in 2018 and also in 2021.
Our members also undertake regulatory, professional discipline, inquiry and public law work. In addition, Chambers has a strong reputation in the fields of health and safety (including fire law), environmental protection, and international practice. The latter includes consultancy work as well as prosecuting and defending in major international trials.
We put our clients first, working with them in navigating complex criminal and regulatory mazes to achieve the best possible outcomes. We are committed to providing high quality, effective and robust advice, clear analysis and pragmatic solutions in a friendly and approachable manner.
We are an inclusive set and committed to ensuring equality, diversity and inclusion within our ranks and the wider Bar. We are engaged both as a set and as individual members in outreach and social responsibility programmes in order to ensure we meet these objectives.
